Aranfell: The Forgotten Lands – Early Demo [Work-in-Progress]

Aranfell is a pixel-art tactical RPG inspired by tabletop adventures.

You control a custom hero who explores a procedurally generated hex map, encounters random events, and engages in turn-based battles — all set in a harsh and mysterious world.

This is an early alpha build created by a solo developer from Kazakhstan. The game is in active development — visuals, systems, and logic will continue evolving. However, many core mechanics are already implemented.

What’s already implemented:

  • Character creation with race, class, background, and traits
  • Fully working inventory system (drag-and-drop, weight, equipment slots)
  • Skill tree with stat bonuses and upgrades
  • Core stat system: Health, Mana, Energy, Carry Weight
  • Energy system tied to movement (D20-based tile cost)
  • 3 random event decks (Beggar, Encounter, Hunt) triggered by movement
  • Hex map generation with multiple biomes (forest, town, lake, dungeon, etc.)
  • Battle panel UI and enemy targeting
  • Enemy data, stats, and initiative system
  • Partial card effects: damage, healing
  • Turn manager with skip turn logic
  • Map camera: WASD to look around, scroll to zoom
  • Saving/loading character and map state
  • Day & Night cycle started, with planned bonuses in progress

Currently being worked on:

  • Final fixes for stat display bugs (HP/Mana/Weight values)
  • Full enemy selection and attack logic
  • UI and logic for spells, actions, and item use in battle
  • Shop system: base merchant logic done, expansion in progress
  • Visual UI updates (basic visuals ready, polish planned)
  • Loot logic for event cards and enemy drops

Planned for Beta:

  • Action system: hunting, resting, crafting, alchemy
  • Traits and backgrounds earned through gameplay (e.g. become a Vampire, Alchemist, or Werewolf through actions/events)
  • Fully animated cards and visual storytelling
  • Race-specific rules (e.g. Undead don’t lose Energy but have penalties)
  • Advanced shop types: Weaponsmith, Alchemist, Mage Guild, etc.
  • Full enemy AI and smarter combat logic
  • Improved UI design and animations
  • Quests, character status effects, and dialogue system
